At this time, the library is not accepting volunteers directly.

However, please reach out to our Friends of the Library for more volunteer opportunities within the library.

Prospective volunteers should fill out a Volunteer Application form and submit this to Library Director Yvette Couser. Youth volunteers (14-18 years of age) will also be required to also supply a Youth Employment Certificate and photocopy of proof of age (birth certificate or driver license) to prove the volunteer is fourteen years or older.  Visit the NH Department of Labor website for current information on Youth Volunteers. Before beginning volunteering assignments the volunteer must agree to a background check, to be paid for by the volunteer.

It is mutually understood that volunteer services will be donated. Volunteers will not be entitled to, nor expect, any present or future salary, wages, or other benefits for their voluntary services.

Volunteering at Merrimack Public Library

To comply with the New Hampshire Department of Labor laws, the Library uses volunteers to supplement and compliment, but not to replace, the efforts of paid Library staff. Volunteers will not be utilized to displace any paid employees from their positions. Volunteers will not be placed in positions that could jeopardize the Library's ability to operate if a volunteer failed to report to work. Please read the complete Library Volunteer Policy  and the Best Practices for New Hampshire Libraries - Volunteers document for more information.
