Merrimack's Ultimaker S3 3D Printer

The Merrimack Public Library is home to an Ultimaker S3 3D printing machine. Fondly nicknamed "Ursula" for the big U on her side, this machine allows the library to deliver high-quality, in-house 3D prints to patrons. However, all that we do with Ursula could not be possible without the Friends of the Merrimack Public Library. Their generous donations keep Ursula in tip-top shape and full of fresh filament to mold!

3D Printer Policy

3D Printer Policy

The Library’s 3D printing tools are available to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a digital design file that the patron has provided.

1. The Library’s 3D printing tools may be used for lawful purposes only. Patrons will not be permitted to use the Library’s 3D printers to create an item that is:

  •    Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
  •    Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
  •    Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
  •    Subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection or otherwise in violation of another’s intellectual property rights.

2. While non-card holder requests will be accepted, priority is given to Merrimack Public Library cardholders.

3. The Library reserves the right to review all files before printing and to refuse any 3D printing request at any time for any reason, at the discretion of Library staff.

4. While there is currently no charge to have items 3D printed, pricing for 3D-printed items is subject to change. Changes in pricing for 3D-printed items will be reflected in this policy and/or on the Library’s website. It is the responsibility of the patron to review the policy or the Library’s website for current pricing information.

5. 3D-printed may take no longer than 6 hours to complete each piece. Multi-piece requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Library reserves the right to alter the size of any prints submitted for the purposes of completing the print within the set time limit.

6. The Library is not responsible for any damage, loss, or security data arising from the use of its computers or network, nor for the functionality or quality of content produced on the 3D printer.

7. Supervision of the 3D printer by Library staff does not constitute knowledge or acknowledgment of any unapparent final use of the 3D product, and the Library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof.

8. Only designated Library staff will have hands-on access to the 3D printer. The schedule of operation and items printed on the 3D printer will be determined by Library staff.

9. Completed items that are printed will be kept for one week for pickup by the patron, after which they will be discarded by Library staff.
